Last year I joined the Secular Buddhist Network as a contact person for secular Buddhism in Hamilton, New Zealand. One person emailed me from that, but we still do not have a secular dharma sangha in Hamilton. To try to generate interest I am giving a public talk at the Hamilton City Library on Sunday afternoon, 02 August.
The topic is secular dharma, based on my understanding of this new approach to Buddhism from reading Stephen Batchelor’s books and listening to his dharma talks. Although advertising for the talk has been a bit tricky because the library does not allow certain topics such as religion and politics; nonetheless, the librarians have made a lovely poster to advertise the talk through their networks:
I’m hoping that my talk will stimulate interest in this topic and perhaps lead to the formation of a secular Buddhist sangha in Hamilton, New Zealand.
