March 18, 2024

There is a new source of free, Buddhist eBooks on the internet. The Lotus Library contains over 1,800 titles from all traditions in PDF format and all are downloadable.

The books are mostly from Creative Commons and ‘free for distribution’ titles. In addition, the site has books by authors like Bhante Dhammika and Ajahn Sujato who have given their permission to the Lotus Library to offer their books free of charge. Older books in the catalogue are available due to being out of copyright.

The  Lotus Library offers books from all the major Buddhist traditions:

  • Chan (Chinese)
  • Non-sectarian (secular)
  • Pure Land
  • Seon (Korean)
  • Theravada (S.E. Asian)
  • Vajrayana (Tibetan)
  • Zen (Japanese)

Founded by Terry Redmond and Tina Ng, the library was built by  a small group of practicing, Buddhist volunteers located in Sydney, Australia. The organization is a registered charity and no one involved charges for their time.

You can check out the library’s collection by author, topic, or tradition.
