Since 2018, Tuwhiri has been publishing books on early Buddhism, its retrieval, and a secular adaptation to 21st century conditions, as well as making available thought-provoking books that are not obviously dharma books but which serve the ethic of care that is central to the dharma.
The year 2025 was a quiet one for Tuwhiri, but things are about to change.
Living life on life’s terms: turning the wheel of secular by Stephen Batchelor, Martine Batchelor and Bernat Font brings together talks from a one-year Secular Dharma course organised by Bodhi College. It will be published during the first quarter of 2026.
Buddhism In A Nutshell, Tuwhiri’s new series of short books to introduce secular dharma, will launch with three titles in the second quarter of the year. During 2026, you can expect to see titles by Cathryn Jacob and Vince Cullen, Mike Slott, Carmel Shalev, Martine Batchelor, Jim Bronson, as well as others.
Also due in 2026, The secular path to well-being: Practical dharma for today by Jeffrey Fracher offers strategies that provide practical, accessible applications of dharma teachings to the dilemmas we all face. Each chapter started as a talk offered to Serenity Sangha students, and was included for its resonance and clarity. The text is presented in a conversational style, inviting readers to engage in a conversation about the challenges of modern life.
Getting involved
We’re all volunteers. If you’re interested in bringing the skills and experience you have, or are keen to learn what’s involved in bringing books to readers, do please reach out to us – send us an email.
And if you’re not already receiving News from Tuwhiri, do please add your email address to the mailing list.
Members of our editorial board are

Publishing is a team effort. If you care about the development of a secular approach to the dharma, when you get involved in Tuwhiri as a volunteer you’ll be helping to publish books, develop book reading groups, and more.
And for those interested in stepping up to be part of our editorial board, here’s a brief outline of what is involved.
Members of our editorial board solicit manuscripts for publication, evaluate manuscripts received, and edit them as necessary. They also take an interest in activities that grow out of Tuwhiri publications, and may participate in promoting Tuwhiri publications and activities.
Download Publishing as a team effort for a more complete breakdown of the publishing process.
Whether you’re in Europe, Africa, the Americas, Asia, Oceania or elsewhere, you might:
- be on the editorial board for an agreed period of time, or
- be with us for the long haul, or
- be engaged in a particular project, or
- have a useful skill or function, or
- sit on the board in an advisory capacity, or as an elder statesperson
People with us in an advisory capacity may, for example, be someone we may consult on a specific topic, or who has stepped down yet wishes to remain engaged.
Right now, we are looking for someone with book production experience, or who is happy to learn about the process of creating beautiful books.
Also, if you have knowledge of book distribution and marketing, or would like to apply your experience of social media in wholesome ways, we’re keen to hear from you.

Submissions
To begin with, please speak with or write to one of the members of our editorial board – firstname [at] tuwhiri.org – if you would like to discuss a book or an educational project. You can also get in touch through the Contact page.
Tuwhiri has put together a style guide to assist authors during the writing process. In the News section of our website, we posted the reasons we created this style guide for Tuwhiri authors. You may find it useful to go through the style guide itself at some point. And finally, here’s a page in which we set out how to submit your manuscript.
