CONNECTING SECULAR BUDDHISTS WORLDWIDE

New Mindfulness-Based Ethical Living (MBEL) Courses Available for English Speakers

September 11, 2026

We are pleased to invite members and friends of the Secular Buddhist Network to register for one of the first English-language courses in Mindfulness-Based Ethical Living (MBEL).

MBEL is a nine-week live online course for people interested in bringing mindfulness practice into deeper conversation with ethics, relationships, and the realities of everyday life. It offers a structured yet open space to explore how we might respond to our lives with greater clarity, care, responsibility, and connection — to ourselves, to one another, and to the wider world.

The course is rooted in practical inquiry rather than in the adoption of particular beliefs. Drawing on mindfulness practice, reflection, dialogue, and everyday experience, MBEL invites participants to investigate questions such as:

  • How do our habitual responses shape the way we experience difficulty, conflict, and uncertainty?
  • What does an ethical life look like in the ordinary situations of work, family, friendship, citizenship, and community?
  • How can mindfulness support not only personal well-being, but also sensitivity to the conditions and consequences of our actions?
  • How might we cultivate a more responsive and connected way of living in an interdependent world?

MBEL may be especially relevant for people drawn to a secular, practice-based approach to Buddhist thought and mindfulness: one that values critical reflection, lived experience, ethical concern, and compassionate engagement with the world.

First English-language courses

To make the course accessible across different regions, we are offering two live English-language cohorts at different times of day. You can choose the one that best fits your location and schedule:

We are also beginning a German-language MBEL course on 15 September, for those who prefer to participate in German.

If you would like to explore the program before deciding, you can find further information on the Ethical Mindfulness website:

MBEL has developed through the contributions of many teachers, researchers, practitioners, and participants who care about the relationship between inner practice and the ethical dimensions of shared life. We would be very glad to welcome members of the SBN community into these first English-language groups.

If you have questions about the course or experience technical problems during registration, please contact us at support@support.ethicalmindfulness.org.
